One Meterite in the Room
.
A boy runs away from home, carrying countless sounding diabolos on his back. The diabolos are his luggage. They are also the room that wraps around him and gives him a place to shelter. At times, they become his hands, feet, and spine.
At times, they hold his body like a mother.
At times, after spinning, they release into the world the immense sound he is not yet able to voice on his own.The boy and the diabolos rely on one another, even as they pull against each other.
They support him, accompany him, and surround him, like the wings of the eternal boy. Between taking flight and falling, he continues searching for a place where he can settle. One Meteorite in the Room
is a creation that combines contemporary circus, object theatre, and physical choreography. Centered on the image of the sounding diabolo, the work follows the artist using the diabolo to build a shelter for himself within a long migration — a refuge that protects him along the way.Through the constantly shifting relationship between the diabolo and the body, the artist attempts to retrace the path of growing up: we feel safe through attachment, and through our interactions with others, objects, and memories, we gradually become ourselves.
The work also draws from the artist’s family memory and from the history of the diabolo in Taiwan, placing the boy’s growth within the island’s longer experience of migration.
The ancestors who crossed the sea, the island drifting through modern history in search of its place, and the boy onstage searching for somewhere to settle are all part of a life journey that has not yet come to rest. Before becoming adults, have we all at some point relied on something outside ourselves to support the parts of us that had not yet grown?
And in the end, how do we loosen our hold on the things that once protected us?This is a migration of growing up, and also the story of a boy practicing how to stand on his own.

Biography
Ivano Huang, born in Taipei in 2002,
works with the diabolo and sees the body and objects as mediums of communication and resonance. His training began in childhood within Taiwan’s folk arts traditions. He 「started with the/began practicing」diabolo at age 8, and from elementary school through high school trained in Taiwan’s folk arts system, with diabolo as his specialization. Growing up alongside the diabolo later shaped his practice in contemporary circus and theatre. After high school, he 「went on to/pursued」 independent study in theatre performance through East Asian physical training and psycho-physical 「performance methods/approaches to acting」. His training includes butoh, Suzuki actor training, and An Acrobat of the Heart—an actor training approach shaped by later developments within the Grotowski tradition. In his practice, he works from relationships that emerge over time between a person and an object, exploring how the performer’s psycho-physical state affects object manipulation, and turning the experience of growing up alongside objects into an exploration of how an individual takes shape.
